We recommend repairing the broken mortar joints immediately to avoid further damage to the stones. This can result in the elements causing damage to the stones, even breaking them. We source and replace broken stones to match as best as possible.
Stone work is highly skilled and has many areas of expertise. We mostly work with restoring existing stone.
To repair properly, we lift each stone and remove all loose mortar, then reinstall them. Also there are other options of installing High Performance Bedding (HPB), a special material designed to harden but still allow water to pass through. Since it’s not mortar, it won’t crack and can shift with the Earth and the stone pieces.
