What is brick replacement?

Bricks become damaged by weather, mostly. Our harsh winters can destroy bricks by the constant abuse of ice and water on the wall. When the water freezes into ice, it expands and sometimes does damage to the mortar joints and the bricks around the edges, often knocking the face of the brick loose. Over time, these become more susceptible to further deterioration quickly.
The solution is to cut around the damaged brick and remove the brick or bricks by smashing them out with a hammer and chisel or small brick chipper.
Once bricks are removed and the area cleaned up and prepared, installing the closest matching brick in the cavity and tuckpoint with the appropriate colour and mortar joint style will complete the job and make it as seamless as possible.
